It is true that an increasing number of people prefer to give birth late today. There is a variety of reasons for this issue, and some consequences on both society and individual families can be resulted from this tendency.
The decision of having late childbirth may come from people’s ambition in their profession and financial condition. In terms of career, loads of individuals consider their promotion as top priority. Instead of spending time on taking care of their offspring, they focus more on doing excellent job and reaching the top in their occupation. Furthermore, the world of work is getting more and more competitive, so having early childbirth can be a real challenge, especially for women. Otherwise, a number of people want to enjoy their single life rather than getting married. For example, women can go shopping or go on a vacation with their friends instead of doing housework or taking care of the children.
On the other hand, this tendency may result in some detrimental effects on both society and family. At the first place, countries may suffer from population ageing due to the decreasing birth rate. Furthermore, the economy can also lack of workforce because of the increase in the number of the elderly. Besides, giving birth late can put the health of mothers and children in danger. Women would be likely to have miscarriage or stillbirth if they get pregnant late, while children might be at greater risk of Down’s syndrome or weak immunity system.
In conclusion, the reasons why a growing number of people want to have late childbirth vary. However, this phenomenon can be adverse to both individuals and society as a whole.
