In many countries, people now wear Western clothes ( suits, jeans) rather than traditional clothing. Why? Is this a positive or negative development?
It is true that today people prefer Western costumes to traditional clothes. There are numerous reasons for this tendency and personally, I believe that this is a positive development.
The trend of wearing modern clothes might result from a various number of reasons. Firstly, it is the convenience of Western clothing that benefits people in daily activities. For example, Japanese cannot dress their national costume, “kimono”, to attend school due to its sophistication, as well as Vietnamese girls are unable to wear “ao dai” on a daily basis because of its long tail. Secondly, the influence of other cultures is also considered as one contributor to this tendency. The appearance of foreign films and music fosters many people to mimic international style and fashion, which raises the popularity of Western clothes.
In my opinion, I am still convinced that this is a positive trend for some obvious benefits. It is clear that the simplicity as well as the formality of modern clothing is likely to be more relevant in numerous incidents. Traditional costumes are sometimes not appropriate for attendants to participate in these formal events. Otherwise, the mass production of modern clothing offers a more reasonable price compared to traditional clothes, as well as the variety of costumes for consumers to choose. As a result, users have a wide range of choice concerning both financial aspect and individual interest.
In conclusion, the widespread adoption of Western costumes stems from people’s contemporary needs, which is largely positive due to its convenience.
