Leaders and directors in an organization are normally older people. Some people think younger leader would be better. Do you agree or disagree?
The issue that whether high-ranking leaders should be the older or the younger still remains a source of controversy. While it is true that giving critical position to senior leaders and directors might be beneficial, I still argue that young leaders would be a superior choice for the development of businesses.
On the one hand, leaders at late middle age might own some advantages over their juniors in terms of maturity and social network perspectives. Regarding age, it is apparent that old candidates accumulate a larger amount of experience and knowledge compared to young people. Therefore, they are proficient to offer accurate decision making and adopt effective strategies. Otherwise, wide social network is also a competitive advantage. Older leaders could utilize their long-term relationships in order to benefit the company’s operation. For example, they could ask their old partners or customers for help when the company has problems.
On the other hand, it seems to me that business should employ younger people as the main labor force. The first reason is that young leaders are more likely to innovate strategies and operation in order to make company adapt to the rapidly changing environment, whereas older leaders tend to be too conservative to make appropriate adjustment. In addition, health is also considered as one crucial factor since people taking important positions always have to deal with stress and pressure. Leaders with physical and mental strength could be a more reasonable choice regarding these challenges.
In conclusion, while I agree that senior leaders and directors have their own advantages, I still believe that it is better for companies to choose younger people for key positions.
